Colors and Symbols

The founding members established these symbols and colors the identity for Beta Delta Mu. 

Colors: The colors are black, teal and pink.


Black represents the color of power and sophistication.  Black is strong and intimidating, it exudes authority and makes one feel secure and protected.  It symbolizes protection, power, elegance, and sophistication.  It has the positive traits of formality, strength, prestige, and authority.  Those who see black see the effects of it:  mystifies, seduction, security, and intimidate.


Teal represents the color of morality and renewal.  Teal is accepting, supportive, and rational.  It symbolizes Individuality, renewal, morality, and practicality.  It has the positive traits of being broad-minded, welcoming, logical, and sympathetic.  Those who see teal see the effects of it:  support, calm, heal, and enlightenment


Pink represents the color of love and compassion.  Pink is kind and comforting, full of sympathy and compassion, and makes us feel accepted.  It symbolizes compassion, love, femininity, and playfulness.   It has the positive traits of kindness, warmth, romance, and intuition.  Those who see pink see the effects of it:  sympathizes, calm, nurture, and comfort.



Mascot: The mascot is the black bear. The Black Bear is the Beta Delta Mu Mascot. Black Bears are found in the Black Hills of SD and symbolize strength, energy, peace, confidence, courage, optimism, and majesty.


Crest:  The crest for Beta Delta Mu recognizes the sorority’s roots at South Dakota Mines.  Symbols present are the arch, representing South Dakota Mines; Black bears, representing the mascot of the organization; Flowers representing the path of membership; a field of 35 stars, representing the 35 founding members; the core mission sisterhood, professionalism, life long learning; as well as the Greek letters for BAM.  


Flowers: The flowers of Beta Delta Mu are the daisy, dahlia, and forget-me-not. 


The daisy represents candidacy within the house and symbolizes new beginnings. 
The dahlia represents active members and symbolizes beauty, commitment, and kindness. 
The forget-me-not represents our alumni and symbolizes loving memories and the importance of never forgetting those who came before. 


Charter members are represented by the pink rose which symbolizes grace, happiness, and gentleness.


Stones. The stones of Beta Delta Mu are Quartz, Fire Opal, and Jade.

Jade is the alumni stone which symbolizes remembrance.
